Many of you know Calvary’s Food Pantry was started to help everyone within our church community.  For some time we wanted to expand the pantry so that it would help our whole community, but were unable to until now.  A group of outreach volunteers led by Maggie Nolan and Hester Bury considered our options and believe the best way to extend our pantry ministry is to work with the Lombard/Villa Park Food Pantry, based at First United Methodist Church at Maple and Main.  The Journey to Adulthood class held a food drive on March 22 to help support this community pantry.

In the past few months the Lombard/Villa Park Food Pantry has seen an increase in numbers served from 55-63 families. That's an increase from an average of 48 last year. Yet, there has not been the same increase in those using Calvary's pantry. Right now the LVP pantry located at First United Methodist Church is in need of monies and volunteers to work their 9-noon shift Mon-Wed-Fri. They also need help with stocking and sorting food. They take gift groceries like those from Trader Joe's. Their most needed items are ketchup, mustard, kid's cereal, tuna, paper towels, toilet paper, spaghetti sauce, pancake syrup, powdered milk, and boxed mashed potatoes.

Calvary will continue to support families in the congregation as done in the past and will welcome gas and grocery gift cards (which can be purchased from our gift card program run by Patty Grobe) to better serve our neighbors who come to Calvary's door. Items can still be dropped off at our church and at the end of the month we will take the items not given out to the LVP pantry. Our Journey to Adulthood Group will be helping with this venture.
